Scottish Renaissance Festival - Santa Cruz

  • Mood:
  • Music: Dig that Crazy Chick

This was a sweet little festival. Michael Gardner has been wanting me to perform at a few of his events. Our schedules just were not matching.  It's actually partially thanks to him that I got started with the Bubble Fairy so quickly. I was at the Dragon Slayers Festival in Aptos with Danse Macabre. Susan had told me the day before to bring some bubble stuff with me... so i did.

Susan went up to Michael about 15 min before the gate opens and asked if her friend, me, could do bubble at his event, just for the fun of it. I actually got invited to perform for the Queen (Derdre) that day, I'm still bumbed that I lost the favor she gave me! I also Talked to Smiley in depthfor the first time that day.

So thank you Michael!

This festival has potential to be something, presently it is a ren-market. It needs a draw, I would like to see competition. Like the Scottish games, maybe have a pesant version of it. Somthin' to think about, Eie. ( Need to say it with a scottish accent) Nothing like men in kilts in precarius situations. Okay I know this is a family show! Well the fairy has to have al ittle fun too ya know! **Grin**

The tips were quite good for a one day show of this size. I did have fun, and I got to see my friends the dragons, I just Kingsford!! Scabbers was not with him, but I just love seeing those guys!!

There were some people that I knew and am getting to know. Most everyone else was at the pirate festival in Vacaville. My friend Maggie came to see me, she payed full gate, just to come see me. Thanks Maggs!! She makes a great shill.. hehehe...

I had a great time talking to the Foole backstage!! Thank you for you wonderful compliments!! Speaking of compliments, I was appoached by a gentleman I have seen at several events, but I don't think were ever actually met. Anyway, asked if he could do a write up on the Online Examiner. Of course I said yes, so here is the link.

I was impressed with what he said, and I thank you very much Michael!!

I do love being the Fairy and I will continue as long as I possibly can! This is why I am pledging to take much better care of myself. But thats for another entry.

Blessings & Bubbles,

BF

Vahalla what a ride!!

  • Mood:
  • Music: Some one's rocking my deamboat (see Buggs Bunny)

Valhalla was fantastic as usual! The turn out was great, even thought the weather was not always cooperating. Danse Macabre were great hosts backstage as usual!! I took a great video of the DM after set durring the "Roundo" I was in the middle and going around to get everyone in. It was great!!

So getting back to the weather and such...

We were staying at my families house in So Lake Tahoe. Very modest, 5 bedroom tutor. My father in law is getting ready to sell the house, so we were also cleaning out the cupbords and dressers and closests and such while we were there. So to say my vacation was not really is vacation is an understatement. But I was more than thankful that we were staying there!! The rainstorms durring the week were un-real. Flash foods, thunder, lightning, rain, hail, and I even saw a bit of snow at one point. Needless to say by Tuesday night those who were staying on site were soaked!, I told Smiley, if we had been camping during the week, I would have packed up and gone home without doing  the second weekend. I was having issues with the dampness and the altitude. You don't realize how much that stuff effects you physically as you get older. Yikes!!! Anyway we got a call from Rabbit, he was feeling real bad too, so we did a Renny Rescue Mission.

As we were driving to Camp Richards I told Smiley that we were gonna take some people home with us. I just couldn't sleep if I knew all of them were sleeping in the rain. So they came on over, they did laundry, and we cooked dinner and watched old movies on the TV. (Gotta say that with a southern accent)

The dogs were having a great time, and the night we put the gabage out was interesting. They had cornered a chipmunk under a cinderblock in the backyard, so I brought them inside to give the little guy a chance to get away. About dusk, Smiley says, " It's about dusk, I wonder if there are any bears out there." He pulls back the cutains in the front room and there is a bear going through the gabage. We saw the neighbors shoo him away, so he walked over the the side of the house, and climb the tree that was right next to the fence, then swing his rear over the fence by climbing around the other side of the tree, and down, then he crossed the back yard just a big as ya please, and climbed the other tree on the back side of the lot and did the same thing, climbed the tree next to the fence and them climb down the tree on the othere side of the fence. Which is US Forestry land BTW.

I got some great film of Fiona chasing bubbles, where she ran up a tree, unfortunatly I lost when I transfered it to my computer. I just love technology, it's great... when it works!

The very next morning I woke up to see coyote's... yes plural as in a pack... running down the street at about 5:30 AM. I guess you could say I got my National Geographic fill for the trip.

We had a good time staying in the house, even though we did work hard getting stuff packed up. I hope we were some kind of help to the family.

The show was good! At least for me. I know the bad weather was bad for a lot of the vendors and some of the performers. But for me, the rainy days with little of no wind are the days I treasure. I was out dancing in the rain. I hope some pictures come back to me of those days, I was doing some of my best outdoor work on that day!! One of the highlights for me was when one very large slow moving bubble was just lumbering down the street and past the ale stand, and I was just following it blowing bubbles into it slowly. It must have had 25 or 30 bubbles inside, and it lasted for at least 40 seconds, maybe even a minute. It was great!!!

The kids were playful and mostly curtious... Hey their kids! The big kids were even more playful and mostly curious... hey their kids!

I love it when boothies invite me to gig in front of their booth and that was happening a lot. The thing is this... I do draw a crowd. And I try to bring some stir to the quieter less visited parts of the shire.

Overall this was a very magical faire!! Next year will be interesting! Just a prediction.

Blessings & Bubbles,

L

Old video reviewed

  • Mood: Playful!
  • Music: Mr Ghost Goes to Town

I got a few emails from people saying they couldn't dowload the video on my site, so I decided to get updated and add it to YouTube.

This was my first download, and I think I'm hooked. Besides, I just got a new video editing progam and I think it's gonna make all the difference in how much video I will produce.

I got a new camera last year, after my unfortunate bubble solution accident at Valhallah. I droped my camera into the bowl of bubble solution and didn't realize it for oh, about an hour or so. Needless to say the camera did not survive!! So I got a new one and it wasn't too costly, plus it does video! Whoo Hoo! Pretty decent too, at least decent enough for youtube. Beleive me I've seen worse on youtube!!

Plus a networking friend suggested that I make comercials for my bubble wands, so that is all stuff that I'm considering. If only I had time for all this stuff!!It's hard to be a Fairy and live in the mortals world.

Enjoy the video!

Vacaville was a blast!!

  • Mood: Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy
  • Music: Pogues - The Sunny Side of the Street

This was the second year of doing the Medieval Fantasy Festival. It's a great little street faire! The bill it as, an earthday faire with a celtic flair.

I found out that my mother inlaw had passed away just as I was leaving for the weekend. I asked Danse Macabre to dance for her.

The weather was hot and the breeze was mild, so I was able to do some pretty amazing things. I just wish I had a camera in my hat! The crowd was a lot of fun!!

Tiphabug took this short video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfQ67eBz_-8

and I also got my picture on the front page of the Vacaville Reporter.

The best part was hanging out with Danse Macabre and seeing all the faire family.

Overall a sucessful start of the year.

Renaissance Bubbles @ Golden Gate Ren Faire 2008

  • Mood: Cold and Wet
  • Music: South Austrailia - The Pogues

I was so pleased to find out that ThebigredViking posted this on YouTube. Thank you so much!! And thank you Chuck for telling me about it.

I look forward to being there again this year. This is my favorite Faire of the season. There is just something special about Golden Gate Park. The idea that we are sharing an artistic vision in such a special place. I was born in San Francisco so I guess that's why it is extra special for me personally.

I am thankful for the reception I have received over the past year. People have seen me doing bubbles on the street for a few years, but this year I was overwhelmed by the response I got back from others when I revealed my fairy self. I thank each and every one of you for your support, your smiles, your gifts of water, trinkets, hugs, and most of all love!

One of the most memorable comments I received was from a couple that said to me, "You help to bring the magic back, that was once Faire." Honestly this comment was a little overwhelimg to me. I do appreciate you all and thank you in each and every bubble that goes out.

Tis the season...

  • Mood: Happy & hopeful
  • Music: Waterboys - Fisherman's Blues

Well here we go, gearing up for another season. I was looking around in my shed to see how much bubble solution I had left over. All I found was one partial case of 64 oz bottles. Not much, at least not much for me.

Sor I went ahead and ordered 5 cases of 128 oz bottles, a little overkill, but what the heck. I also went ahead and ordered a 5 gallon bucket of glycerin.

Here is the kicker, no sooner had I placed these two orders, but my brother informs me that I still have 3 cases of Mr. Bubbles in the garage, that have been there for a few years.

Oh, well maybe this is a good thing! Like always say, when life gives you soap, make bubbles! Maybe I will be busier than I think this year. If not, I won't have to buy any supplies for 2 seasons. Yay!!

Today is a beautiful day out, so I'm just gonna hang out at home, work in the garden, and play with my website.

Blessings & Bubbles,

Lenie
